Geekiest Show Ever 269 – Gameboy Mobile Phone


This week we have a focus on some house keeping and gaming. First off we have an announcement that GSE is moving to an every other week schedule for the show and discuss some of the reasons why and what to expect going forward.  Next up is some sad news, great friend of the show and of our’s personally has passed away, Dorothy Yamamoto. She was great artist and a huge supporter and will be greatly missed. We share a few stories and anecdotes of Dorothy. On a lighter note we move on to our main topic and that is an article Mike found on a device that let’s you turn your smart phone into a Gameboy. Even letting you play your Gameboy and Gameboy Color cartridges. We discuss some of the other things coming in retro gaming in the near future.

We round out the show with our picks. First is Elisa with her choice of a piece of software to make podcast editing a bit easier, it is Apple’s Logic X. Next, Mike tries to share his pick until Skype decides to kick him out. He gets a chance to give a basic description of his choice of the WORX Ultimate AeroCart Combo. Lastly, Kevin shares his choice of a Refurbished 6th generation iPod touch.  That is as Elisa says, is to accommodate his vast music collection.

Nobody breathe all 4 of us are here this week.

This week we are doing something a bit different. Since most people, except Kevin, hunker down in the winter and look for indoor activities we decided to look at a favorite geek pastime of binge watching. We discuss what we have been binge watching. Some movies Dark Night, Batman versus Superman and Deadpool. TV shows that are on our list include Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, Narcos, Bloodline, OA and Black Mirror.

We close out with our picks. Melissa goes back to her favorite place and chooses a Black 256 GB iPhone 7 plus. Elisa goes over the top with a geeks favorite beverage machine. An Espresso & Cappuccino machine. Mike carries on his theme from last week and chooses a 60” 4K TV with UHD. Kevin finishes out with a Linux Laptop he is lusting for.

Geekiest Show Ever 242 – Just a Picture of Her Tech Folks

Yes we are back but, we are down a host. Elisa is under the weather in more ways than one and we cover that in the weather report.

We start with a discussion of some things we received at Christmas. Kevin loves his Amazon Tap. That evolves into our different music streaming services. Then back to the things we got or gave our family and friends for Christmas.

Then Melissa finally got her new MacBook Pro and shares with us her delivery woes getting it. After that we try to help her solve the issues she is facing with an upcoming trip. Mike and Kevin give her some ideas to help. Then we discuss battery life of our gadgets because Melissa is a bit ADD about charging.

We wrap it up with our picks. Melissa decides her new MacBook is her pick and if she had the extra cash she would buy Kevin one. Mike decides on a last minute pick is the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. Kevin mentions Mark’s new iPad Pro before sharing his pick of a quiet 2 week retreat into the Mountains of Tennessee. We round out with Melissa’s PSA.

Two weeks in a row and the gangs all here.

First we start off discussing Elisa’s Apple Watch woes and the support call she is still waiting to be returned. Then Melissa follows up on her research into what it takes to now qualify for using the educational discount from Apple.

Next up is the main topic of the show, geeky stocking stuffers under $30 that actually fit in a stocking. Kevin starts out with Mattel Electronic Football handheld game, followed by Anker portable charger for your devices, then rounds it up with not one but, two flash drives. Elisa’s potpourri of picks starts with a product for Mike and Kevin Poo-Pourri, then moves on to a Stanley screwdriver, a different Anker charger and rounds it out with a childhood toy favorite the Slinky. Mike chimes in with his picks TrackR bravo key tracker, iFixit toolkit and its benefits beyond technology, and a LED Flashlight. Melissa brings the idea of the watchbands from Amazon that are fraction of the cost Apple ones are, then a mug made from Lego and wraps up with her previous mention of the Fidget Cube.

This week it is Elisa, Melissa, Mike and Kevin. Yes believe it or not the gangs all here. We lead off with update to show recording schedule over the coming weeks.

Kevin starts out talking about his Comcast interaction this week and why he is going to purchase his own cable modem and possibly DVR over the coming months. Elisa and Melissa give some sage advice on what to consider when modem shopping and Mike offers recommendations for DVR alternatives.

We then move on to Melissa’s recent buying binge and all the goodies she has ordered. To make it easier for us to understand, she shares an informative PDF she put together. If you want to see it ask her and she will share it.

We close out the show with our picks as always. Elisa follows on with her pick last week by choosing a Sonos Playbar. Which we then discuss the type of audio it simulates. We move to Melissa’s pick of the Wish App and how it let’s her compare prices and avoid middlemen. Mike has interesting little Drone to fly around and annoy his neighbors and pets. This week it is Elisa with Mike and Kevin.

We start silly as usual but, get serious when Kevin asks for support for the victims of the wild fires in Gatlinburg Tennessee, a place near and dear to him so follow this link to see how you can help the victims out. Then we wrap up with a wonderful weather report, at least from Kevin’s perspective.

Then Kevin gives an update on his iOS 10 issues and concerns and wonders why Siri has gotten stupid. That leads to discussion of voice recognition devices including the Amazon Echo, Google Home and rounds out with the Amazon Tap.

Elisa then talks about all of her Black Friday purchases that arrived and we discuss Apples Photos app and the problems she has had with it. We then discuss alternative print services including one surprise for Kevin Amazon print services and a link to deal.

We wrap-up with our picks. First off is Kevin with something to fulfill his need a new USB powered hub from Satechi. Elisa has fairly unique pick for the sports fan. It is Fanchest if you have a sports fan on your Christmas list check it out at FanChest.com. Mike then decides to break the bank and shock Elisa  with his pick of a Bobcat Utility vehicle.

This week it is Elisa with Mike and Kevin while Melissa is still trying to get back to us.

We start with discussing all the items Elisa and Mike bought in and around Black Friday sales that abounded this past weekend. Kevin had great deal of restraint but, did cave on one item.
